Where can port holes be located?

Just about anywhere on the head — with one rule: a port needs to be at least 1.75" from the edge of the drumhead. Any closer and you end up with a head that's difficult to tune and prone to tearing under tension.

Every head is ported by hand, based on the location you choose. None of them are pre-ported.

The HeadBuilder shows you this port boundary as soon as you add a port and restricts positioning outside of the area so you can't accidentally put a port where it won't work.

If you Leave It To Us, we'll place your port in the best possible spot given your artwork and the boundary, and you'll receive a proof for approval before anything goes to production.

One exception: Evans Calftone heads. The Evans logo can only be removed by cutting it off, so a Calftone head requires a 4″ or larger port, positioned to remove the logo. We rotate the artwork to keep the port roughly where you want it, but precise port placement isn't possible on Calftone.
